What Is Sand Casting?
Sand casting is a traditional method of making jewellery. A mould is created by pressing a ring design into tightly compacted sand before molten precious metal is poured into the impression. The individual grains of sand leave a distinctive texture on the metal and, as a new mould is formed for every piece, no two rings will have exactly the same finish. Sand from a meaningful beach or special location can also be used, adding a personal connection to the finished jewellery.
All sand casting is carried out solely by James using precious metals in our Devon workshop.

How It Is Made
A mould of your jewellery design is pressed tightly into compacted sand to create a details mould.
Molten precious metal is carefully poured into the mould, taking the shape of your design.
The piece is then removed from the sand, cleaned and finished by hand.
