James French – Goldsmith and Founder
James French is the goldsmith and owner behind JWF Unique Designs, and the sole maker of every piece produced by the business. All wedding rings and jewellery are handmade by James in his Devon workshop, from initial design through to completion, with the day-to-day running of the business supported by his wife, Terri.
Experience and Craft
James has over a decade of experience working as a goldsmith. During this time, he has built a strong foundation in traditional and modern jewellery-making techniques, with a particular focus on wedding rings. His work spans precious and alternative metals, allowing him to advise customers clearly on material choice, durability, and long-term wear.
James was recognised for his work during the Platinum Jubilee year of the late Queen Elizabeth II as part of The Meaning Behind the Marks, a series produced by the London Assay Office.
The series explored the role and significance of hallmarking during the Jubilee year. As part of this, James designed and made a brooch, contributing his work and perspective as a goldsmith.
